Alongside the “The New Silk Road of Martial Studies – A Dialogue between Eastern and Western Martial Arts Literature” exhibition, the 5th International Martial Studies Conference was held, for the first time, at The Red House (Ximen Honglou), Taipei on 24th August 2024. Jointly organised by Hong Kong Culture Festival, Institute of Chinese Martial Studies and International Guoshu Association, the Conference aimed to facilitate exchange among leading scholars of martial studies and practitioners of historic martial arts in East Asia and Europe on three main topics, namely:

  1. History Manuals, Social Context & their Technical Content
  2. Cross-cultural Perspectives on Martial Art Developments in History
  3. Transmission of Martial Art Knowledge beyond the Text: Oral Traditions, Digital Technology and Contemporary Arenas of Practice.

11 world-renowned scholars from the globe were invited and gathered in Taipei to exchange ideas on their research topics. 200 seats were fully reserved prior to the Conference indicated that scholars and public eager for academic exchange of martial studies on internation level. Local scholars, martial arts practitioners and lovers’ passion for the development and research in martial studies reflected through their questions asked at the Q&A session.
